NUS High School NCC,
Firstly, I would like to thank the NCC. Here’s why.
When I joined this unit back in 2005, to be honest, I wasn’t very happy about it. At that time, NCC was my 4th choice CCA, behind badminton and some other stuff that I really can’t remember. The only reason why the NCC was on my list at that time was because I was in a Uniformed Group in my primary school, and so was interested to go for another one (just so I could fill up the last 2 slots in my CCA choice list). However, upon joining the CCA, I actually decided against leaving (I had the option because I had medical conditions) after getting used to the unit. The unit was fun to have on CCA days (to my surprise at that time) with the guidance of CLT Reuben (now NS) and of course, our ex-Sergeant Major Tan Je Hon. NCC brought me a sense of responsibility, with my first role ever as Room IC (as appointed by Reuben), and further down, I began to assist Je Hon now and then.
In Part C, slightly before the Specialists Course, I began to understand the whole structure. Obviously, Je Hon was USM, so I went for the post of his assistant. I was, of course, happy to receive it. It brought me a sense of responsibility and purpose in the NCC. Towards the end of my term, I actually stopped looking forward because I felt that after NCC, I wouldn’t have a future. So thank you to all of you, for bringing me responsibility and direction.
Part Cs:
It’s now your turn to run the unit. Of course, several of you are capable of this, and I don’t believe there will be a problem. But keep in mind that above running a unit well, you must remember to take care of everyone, whether or not they belong in the unit, and maintain strong ties and results with the school and leadership boards so as to allow yourselves to have more opportunities.
Part Bs:
There may be only 3 of you, but you have great potential. Derek and Jun Rui, you have shown yourselves capable of managing a platoon already, and will continue growing, I hope. Continue to excel, and I would like to see you handling the entire unit.
Part As:
Being 13 of you, you can definitely set a new trend for the NUS High NCC. Strive to excel in all that you do and you will in the end come out as better people. All the best.
CO Mr Tham:
Thank you for supporting us throughout. It has made my NCC experience more enjoyable as a whole.
So to end off…
Thank you all again. I look forward to working with all of you again someday.
Remember. It is not who you are that defines you but what you do that matters. (so do your best at everything, and you will be someone who deserves your rank and recognition, do not take the name of the NCC as your defining factor)
